Getting breakdown cover can be challenging in the UK, mainly because multiple providers are vying for your attention and custom. With so many options, it can be hard to figure out which service is right for you and which offers the best value for money.

One breakdown cover provider that’s relatively new to the market is MotorEasy. A smaller name when compared to the established industry leaders like the AA and RAC, they’re a business that’s committed to offering more, trying to give the best experience possible for motorists.

In this guide

Who Is MotorEasy?

Founded in 2016, MotorEasy is a breakdown cover provider based in the UK, offering a full range of services to help motorists look after their car and crucially repair it quickly when things go wrong and break down.

When compared to other breakdown cover providers, MotorEasy is still one of the least recognised and thus hasn’t built the reputation that other brands have, such as the AA and RAC. Regardless, the business is still making waves in the sector and has partnered with many well-established brands to help improve its profile.

This year, it sponsored the What Car? Car of the Year Awards, helping it to become a more well-known business within the industry.

MotorEasy prides itself on making the management of a customer’s car a lot easier to do. With simplicity at the core of its values, MotorEasy offers an all-in-one service with many different bespoke options.

Who Owns MotorEasy?

MotorEasy is currently owned by Duncan McClure Fisher, who also acts as CEO of the company. McClure Fisher has been involved in the insurance and motor cover industry since 1995, having first started Warranty Direct in 1995. This company was one of the first to directly offer a car warranty to customers, demonstrating that MotorEasy is governed by an individual who wants to remain a pioneer within the industry.

In 2016, he set up MotorEasy, committing to making it an easy and hassle-free online platform where customers can manage and protect their vehicles. Unlike any other cover breakdown cover provider in the UK, MotorEasy launched Health Checks, which reviews the wear and tear of members’ vehicles, helping customers keep better care of their vehicles.

What services does MotorEasy offer?

MotorEasy is unique among breakdown cover providers because it offers many additional services that many others do not. In fact, breakdown cover is not even its main product, and the business offers various other services that can benefit motorists.

For example, in addition to the Breakdown cover, you’re able to book MOT tests directly from MotorEasy, and you’re also able to get new tyres and cosmetic adjustments from their website too.

These additional services mean that MotorEasy is a great place for people who are passionate about their cars and want to go the extra mile to give them the care it needs.

When looking at their breakdown cover specifically, MotorEasy offers the standard four levels of service that you can expect with most breakdown cover providers. The levels of service that you can add to your breakdown cover policy with MotorEasy are:

Level 1 – Local Recovery

In their standard level of cover, you can get roadside assistance when you break down more than a mile from your home address. This is where a mechanic will come to your location to fix your vehicle on the roadside. The eligibility range for roadside assistance is a little further with MotorEasy than some leading providers, as you can usually get roadside assistance from 1/4 of a mile from your home.

If your car can’t be fixed on the roadside, you’ll be able to have your vehicle towed to a garage that’s within 10 miles. This is known as roadside recovery.

With this level, you also get alternative transport arrangements and emergency overnight accommodation if your car needs fixing and you’re left stranded for a long time. There are also perks like key recovery, misfuel assist, and driver illness or injury cover.

These perks are not usually present in other standard levels of cover offered by other providers, and you’ll usually have to pay more for these services when getting quotes from another provider. Having all this includes as standard makes MotorEasy an attractive option.

Level 2 – Nationwide Recovery

With the level 2 tier of cover offered by MotorEasy, you get everything in level 1, plus nationwide recovery. This is where you can choose to take your broken down vehicle to any garage or destination in the UK.

Level 3 – Home Assist

With this level of cover, you get what’s included in levels 1 and 2, plus the ability to get help sent to your home address. Usually, if your car breaks down at home, you cannot get help with level 1 or 2 cover. Having Home Assist can be useful if your car isn’t starting due to a flat battery, and this cover can help you get on with your day.

Level 4 – Europewide Recovery

In this level of cover, you get all that’s included from level 1 to 3, as well as recovery assistance across Europe. This means that if you break down while travelling, you’ll be able to get support.

MotorEasy also offers a 7-day replacement policy. If your vehicle breaks down 7 days or less before a European trip, they will cover the costs of a hire car or the rebooking of a sea crossing.

The level that you choose will increase the price of your policy. For example, the Level 2 cover will be more expensive than the standard level one cover.

How much does MotorEasy Breakdown Cover Cost?

MotorEasy comes in as a pretty cheap option for motorists. It is dramatically cheaper when comparing its level 3 tier of cover to the leading providers like the AA and RAC.

For a 12-month plan, MotorEasy’s level 3 costs around £55. The AA costs just under £140 for an equivalent service, and the RAC is even more expensive, being quoted at £216.

This means that if you’re looking for a good level of cover, MotorEasy is pretty cheap and also very simple to buy from.

Plus, once you’ve gotten cover, it may also be possible to get discounts on some of their other services. This means that you can get on with enjoying your car for a good and fair price.

MotorEasy Breakdown Cover Reviews

MotorEasy is a well-trusted and well-reviewed breakdown cover provider and scores very well on review websites. For example, the company currently scores 4.7 stars out of 5 on Trustpilot. This is a very high score and is better than the industry’s leading competitors. For example, the AA and RAC only have a score of around 4.2 and 4.1 stars.

This means that MotorEasy has the edge, and with a very large sample size of just under 8000 reviews, this score can be trusted.

Only 4% of reviewers have given the brand a bad rating, with 94% of reviewers rating the business as great or excellent. Among the good reviews, many people praised the customer service team, saying they were efficient and helpful. As well as this, people were also really happy with the competitive prices that MotorEasy offered.

When looking at its performance statistics, 80% of call-outs were fixed by the roadside, equivalent to most of the other brands offering roadside assistance. They also have a pretty quick response time, meaning you don’t have to wait that long for help.

Motoreasy Breakdown Cover Review: The Verdict

MotorEasy is a very interesting and attractive option when it comes to breakdown cover. It’s well priced and comes in a lot cheaper than the leading options in the industry, and for that price, you get a good standard of cover.

What sets MotorEasy apart from some of the other options is that it includes many traditionally more exclusive services in its level one plan. Having things such as key replacement and onward journey services included at such a low price makes it a great value.

Plus, with one of the highest reviews for businesses that offer breakdown cover, it’s certainly a reliable option for most motorists. In fact, it’s hard to find many negatives about MotorEasy. The company has achieved its goal by creating a simple service and is a customer-focused breakdown cover provider that makes it super easy to get the cover you need.

MotorEasy also offers a lot of other services, making it a one-stop shop for all your car needs. This again adds value to the product, especially if you’re able to get discounts for some of their different products when you sign up to be a member.

Services such as the ability to book cheap MOTs, plus the ability to get tyes and other cosmetic adjustments directly from their website demonstrate that the business has everything covered, making the company a great option that you should consider.
